Yami Gautam’s Lost starts off well, but eventually goes in so many directions that it loses the point completely, making it an unsatisfying and underwhelming watch!

Storyline:
Ishan, a young Dalit theatre activist (Tushar Pandey) goes mysteriously missing. Vidhi (Yami Gautam), a fiercely independent and righteous journalist, sets her sights on this scoop and is determined to get to the bottom of things.
She finds it strange that the police are reluctant to question his lover Ankita (Pia Bajpiee) – an ambitious girl who now has ties in big places, namely with minister Varman (Rahul Khanna). It is then speculated in the media that maybe Ishan hasn’t gone missing but is rather in cahoots with Maoist rebels.
While Vidhi is busy trying to unravel things, two sinister thugs seem to stalk her every moment. Vidhi’s grandfather (Pankaj Kapur) is aware of the perilous nature of her job but he doesn’t get involved beyond sharing his own pearls of wisdom.

What Do We Think:
Yami Gautam gives a sincere and intense performance as the crime journalist in this grim thriller and is the best thing about this film. Though Lost starts off on a solid note, it flounders along the way.
Lost ends up so slow-burn and half-baked, that in trying to keep it subtle, the point itself seems to be LOST. It’s stuffed to the brim with issues but no satisfactory treatment is given to most of them. There are no ‘thrills’ as such, leaving the audience peering into a vague haze.
Yami shares a warm camaraderie with her on-screen grandpa Pankaj. Rahul Khanna and Pia Bajpiee have given commendable performances but their characters could have been more fleshed out. Tushar Pandey as the missing Ishan fits the role quite well when he’s on screen for a limited time. Neil Bhoopalam appears briefly but is rather irrelevant in the film.
Though it is billed as a social thriller, Lost makes for a thoroughly underwhelming watch. The initial tense atmosphere just dissipates, leaving the viewer unsatisfied.
Hit Or Miss:
It is currently streaming on Zee5. This does seem like a strictly OTT flick, so catch it if you’re in the mood for a melancholic slow-burner.
