The Huma Qureshi-starrer is the biopic of Tarla Dalal – noted cookbook writer and celeb who was known for hosting popular cookery TV shows like “The Tarla Dalal Show” and “Cook It Up With Tarla Dalal”.

In her lifetime, Tarla wrote over 100 cookbooks and sold more than 10 million copies. Her recipes have been translated into Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali and even Dutch and Russian. She was awarded ‘Woman of the Year’ by Indian Merchants’ Chamber in 2005. In 2007, she was awarded ‘The Padma Shri’ by the Government of India.

The director and screenwriter did a terrific job at bringing simplicity to screens. Despite being an almost 2-hour movie, the film doesn’t feel boring. However, it struggles to keep you hooked at times.

Talking about the performances, Huma and Sharib are to look out for. Their performance is one of the highlights of the movie.

Even though Huma doesn’t look like Tarla, she gets into the skin of her character earnestly and does justice to the titular character.

On the other hand, Sharib as Nalin Dalal is a perfect 10/10. He plays the role of a supporting husband effortlessly. His confrontation scene in the climax is emotional, hard-hitting and strikes the right chord in the hearts of the viewers. Seasoned actress Bharati Achrekar as Tarla’s neighbourhood aunty is delightful.

The songs add to the flavour of the movie. Being the biopic on Tarla Dalal, the movie should have had more cooking scenes

HIT Or MISS?

Tarla is just as simple and heartwarming as delicious comfortable home-cooked food. It’s a feel-good movie that is absolutely worth a watch.
