While Pakistan Major General Hamid Iqbal (played by Manish Wadhwa) – is eagerly waiting to take his revenge on Tara, the one-man-army truck driver is living a peaceful life with his Madam Ji, their grown-up son Charanjit Singh aka Jeete (played by Utkarsh Sharma).

Set against the backdrop of the ‘Crush India Movement’ of 1971, 17 years after the original, Lieutenant Colonel Devendra Rawat asks Tara to be a CHT (Civil Hired Transport). When the Pakistani army captures several Indian soldiers and truck drivers, Tara is presumed to be held captive by them. Jeetey decides to go to Pakistan with the help of a fake passport and bring his paape back.

However, there is a twist. Things take an ugly turn when Jeete learns that his father is not there and in return, he himself gets caught by them. What happens next is the crux of the story.

What Do We Think?

Gadar 2: The Katha Continues hit the screens today with lots of expectations and enthusiasm. Needless to say, Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel reprising their iconic roles, Tara & Sakina, are the soul of the movie.

The flashback shots from the original, including the recreated versions of the two classic songs – Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava and Main Nikla Gaddi Leke – will make you nostalgic. The rest of the songs are pretty much forgettable.

While the first part of the franchise highlighted the romance between Tara & Sakina, the sequel sheds light upon a father-son bond that is set against the backdrop of India-Pakistan hatred that refuses to die down.

Anil Sharma’s direction is fine. Just like the original, the sequel is also loaded with OTT desh-vakti that may appear as jingoistic at times, slow-mo action sequences and heavy dialoguebaazi.

Sunny Deol as Tara Singh is powerful as usual. From the hand-pump scene to snarling ‘ayee’ every now and then, the 65-year-old actor slips into one of his iconic characters perfectly. Ameesha Patel has nothing much to offer. Once in a while, she appears in scenes teary-eyed waiting for her men (husband and son) to come back to her.

Utkarsh Sharma, son of director Anil Sharma, made his presence felt as grown-up Jeete. He stood out in funny and action scenes, however, he needs more conviction in emotional scenes.

On the other hand, Simratt as Jeete’s love interest is pleasant to watch. Manish Wadhwa as the antagonist will hold your attention.

One of the biggest drawbacks of the movie is its duration. Gadar 2 is a lengthy affair with a couple of scenes that seem to be overstretched.

HIT Or MISS?

Overall, Gadar 2, despite its flaws, is worth a one-time watch on big screens ahead of the long weekend before Independence Day. Tara and Sakina bring back the nostalgic factor in this much-awaited sequel that is high on emotion and patriotism.
