Storyline:
OMG 2 revolves around Kanti Sharan Mudgal, a stout devotee of Lord Shiva. His faith is strengthened even more after God guides him when his family is in trouble.
The son of the devoutly religious Kanti Sharan – Vivek (Aarush Sharma) gets expelled when he gets caught doing something on the premises that the school considers as an ‘immoral conduct’. Feeling utterly humiliated, Vivek is on the verge of suicide when divine intervention saves him.
Akshay Kumar plays the messenger of Lord Shiva – guiding Kanti Sharan in the right direction during his struggles. Kanti decides to sue himself, the school and all the people who he believes led his son astray. Watch how this engaging courtroom drama unravels!
Yami Gautam plays the fierce lawyer Kamini, fighting the case in opposition to Kanti Sharan.
What Do We Think:
OMG 2 can honestly be termed as a groundbreaking film – particularly when it comes to commercial packaging in breaking taboos around sex education. It is extremely relevant without being vulgar or obscene or disrespectful of the Indian culture.
It handles sex education with sensitivity, grace and without any pretension. A remarkably fresh, honest and hilarious film. Dialogues are both entertaining and filled with substantial nuance.
Pankaj Tripathi is the backbone of OMG 2. This is a Pankaj Tripathi film through and through; one of his best performances! He perfectly nails the sensitive and compassionate character of Kanti Sharan, who admits his own failure and is willing to spearhead the change he wants to see in this world.
Pankaj and his son’s bond is touching…it forms the emotional core of the story that resonates well with the audience. Young Aarush Sharma does a good job of portraying the harrowing ordeal and internalised guilt faced by his character Vivek.
Compared to the 1st part, Akshay Kumar appears in a limited capacity in the sequel so much so that one feels it was an extended cameo. But Kumar leaves a stellar impact with his charisma and one can feel the wisdom of his character shining through. He truly seems to embody the godliness of Lord Shiva. The God-devotee dynamic between Akshay and Pankaj is heartwarming to watch as well. After a string of unfortunate box office failures, OMG 2 sure seems to bring Akshay back into the public’s good graces.
Yami Gautam as the hyper-competent lawyer is on fire! She brings the house down with her strong, arresting performance and fierce energy and provides an entertaining back-and-forth in the courtroom drama. And she does not miss a beat! OMG 2 is a good balance of humour, emotions, and honest conversations. Little slow-burn than the first part, but equally impressive nevertheless.
It has its heart in the right place with regards to its messaging, and it absolutely deserved to have a U/A certificate. Ironically, the people who are its intended target may not end up watching it because of the A certificate.
Hit Or Miss:
Definitely deserves to be seen. It is a bold attempt at trying to normalize and be open about the conversation around the taboos regarding sex and sex education!
