In the aftermath of Sushant Singh Rajput’s tragic demise, the issue of nepotism and Bollywood’s treatment of ‘outsiders’ has come into the spotlight. Earlier, Maharashtra Home Minister, Anil Deshmukh had commented that the Mumbai Police would explore the alleged ‘clinical depression owing to professional rivalry’ angle as well while investigating his suicide.
Reported by India Today, it has come to light that the Bandra Police, in charge of the investigation have demanded copies of the contract signed between Sushant Singh Rajput and Yash Raj Films (YRF).
Under his 3-film deal with the banner, Sushant had done 2 movies; Shuddh Desi Romance (2013) and Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2015).
However, his 3rd film with YRF – ‘Paani’ which was to be made in collaboration with director Shekhar Kapur didn’t take off even after 11 months of the actor not signing any other film. As per Hindustan Times report, when the film was shelved due to the producers at Yash Raj Films backing out of the project, the actor was heartbroken as he had devoted months for preparation!
In a recent Instagram live session with Manoj Bajpayee, Shekhar revealed that he wanted to make ‘Paani’ with Sushant only.
The director had also tweeted this after Sushant passed away.
On Thursday, the police recorded the statement of Sushant’s business manager Shruti Modi and Radhika Nihal from his PR team. 3 other leading production houses may also be called in for questioning in regards to the case.
