Who Is Chandu Champion Based On?
Along with the 1st look, Kartik updated that he has wrapped up Schedule 1 in London! According to reports, Kartik is essaying the role of Indian swimmer Murlikant Petkar, whose pet name was Chandu allegedly.
India’s first Paralympic gold medalist!
Murlikant was India’s first Paralympic gold medalist! He started off as a member of the Indian Army but he got disabled after getting badly injured in the 1965 war against Pakistan. Before his injury, he had been a boxer too, but due to his disability, he switched to tennis and even cleared the 1st round in the 1968 summer Paralympics.
Later, he got into swimming and in 1972 he bagged India’s first-ever Paralympic gold medal for the 50 m freestyle swimming. Murlikant Petkar had set a world record at that time with his impressive timing of 37.33 seconds!
