Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan had been sent to 14-day judicial custody in the alleged cruise drug bust case.
His bail application was heard today on October 8, which coincidentally happens to be his mother Gauri Khan’s 51st birthday.
Aryan’s lawyer Satish Maneshinde had previously argued that no drugs were recovered from Aryan or his bag, he wasn’t connected to the organisers or Arbaaz Merchant’s activities. He had also argued against NCB extending the bail – “Confrontation cannot be grounds for custody.”
As per NDTV, a few more arguments made by Maneshinde on Aryan’s behalf –
Aryan’s statement also read – “I am 23-year old with no antecedents. I happen to be from Bollywood. They went through my mobile and they downloaded all the data. Mobile has been sent for forensic examination. From the first day till today nothing has emerged. Contact with Archit was revealed on first day and they took their own time. Their contention is I am required for confrontation. That has been rejected by the Supreme Court. Top Court says interrogation, investigation, confrontation can take place when someone is released on bail.
Where is the material to prosecute? No material has been found on me or in my bag. Not a single material to disclose any commit any conspiracy.
Nothing much has emerged in the five days and that is because there is nothing. I am from a respectable family and I am not likely to abscond. Accused who they say is connected to me is already in their custody.
Supreme Court says don’t play around with the fundamental rights of citizens. They should not stand on technicalities. They should go by merit. There is no case on merit.“
However, as per the latest update in the case from HT, Aryan’s bail has been REJECTED by the Mumbai Magistrate Court, which has said the “plea is not maintainable.“
Aryan’s lawyer will now move sessions court to file for bail. Currently, Aryan and the others – Munmun Dhamecha, and Arbaaz Merchant, have been kept at the special quarantine cell of the Arthur Road jail.
