Sometime back, Kareena Kapoor had hit the headlines for allegedly demanding 12 crores to play Sita’s role.
The movie in question was the Alaukik Desai directorial ‘Sita – The Incarnation’. The news turned out to be false though.
The film’s writer KV Vijayendra Prasad (of Baahubali fame) had emphatically DENIED that Kareena had ever been approached in the 1st place. But the controversy had trended for quite some time nevertheless.
Reacting to debate, Taapsee Pannu had spoken out in support of Kareena, saying she was well within her rights as a big superstar to demand hefty remuneration.
Taapsee had told Bollywood Bubble – “You’ll always read about this issue of hiked salary with women. But why not? She is one of the biggest female superstars we have in the country. If she commands a certain salary for her time, it’s her job. Do you think any other mythological characters that are played by men, do you think they do it for free? I don’t think so. So it’s only when a woman hikes her salary, people call her ‘problematic’. Whereas, it’s a success barometer when it’s a man.”
Now, Kareena Kapoor Khan too has broken silence over the reports of her alleged movie fee hike. In an interview with The Guardian, Kareena commented on the pay gap –
“Just a few years ago, no one would talk about a man or woman actually getting equal pay in a movie. Now there are a lot of us being very vocal about it. I make it quite clear what I want and I think that respect should be given. It’s not about being demanding, it’s about being respectful towards women. And I think things are kind of changing.”
As for the Sita role – Kangana Ranaut has been roped in for Sita: The Incarnation movie. The actress took to Instagram to announce the news.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Kareena will next be seen in Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha. She also has Hansal Mehta’s next – a yet-untitled thriller that she will be producing as well.
