In a recent vlog, actress Yuvika Chaudhary vexed a huge number of people after using a casteist slur.
Yuvika later claimed to not having known the meaning of the word and issued a public apology to netizens.
However, that did not seem to work effectively in calming the roaring controversy. Not too long after the video went viral, Twitterati began trending the hashtag #ArrestYuvikaChaudhary in anger over her vlog.
Now, Yuvika’s husband Prince Narula stepped up and had reacted to the whole issue which as per him has been blown out of proportion. “Aaj kal log kuchh bhi baat ko bahot bada bana dete hain. Bade cases hain jispe humein baat karni chahiye, uspe koi baat nahi karta. Bahot saari cheezein hain jispe actually action lena chahiye, ye toh bhot chhoti cheez hai,” he says.
(These days people make any issue a big deal. There are bigger cases that we have to talk about right now, but nobody is saying anything about those. There are other things for which action needs to be taken, this is a very small issue.)
Continuing his defence, Prince also mentions Yuvika was not aware of the word’s meaning. “Hum caste mein believe nahi karte. Main Punjabi hu aur woh Jat hai. Agar aisa hota toh humari shaadi na hoti, hai na?”
(We do not believe in caste. I am a Punjabi and she is a Jat. If this was the case, we would not have gotten married, right?)
An FIR has been filed against Yuvika in Hansi city police station and she is booked under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act (Prevention of Atrocities).
