As the actress-producer-social activist turns 39 today, let’s walk down the memory lane when the ‘Rehna Hain Tere Dil Mein’ actress won the Miss Asia Pacific Pageant in 2000.

Apart from the Miss Asia Pacific title, Dia had also won Miss Beautiful Smile, Miss Avon, and Miss Close-Up Smile in the same year.

It was the same year when Priyanka Chopra Jonas won the Miss World title and Lara Dutta received Miss Universe.

On 3rd December 2000, 18-year-old Dia won the title of Miss Asia Pacific International and brought home the crown 27 years after Tara Anne Fonseca. 

On completing 20 whole years of winning this title, Dia took to Instagram to show her gratitude. “Cannot believe it’s been 20 years roughly about this time in the evening that I won the title of Miss Asia Pacific for India! So grateful to every single person that has contributed to my growth,” she wrote.

During the IANS interview in 2013, the actress opened up on how she was motivated by the viewer’s notion. She said, “I’ve never been crushed by the industry’s perception. I’ve always been motivated by the audience’s perception. People love me, and no one can change that. From where I came and how I started, I’ve got more than what I could have asked for. I have only gratitude.”

Believing in her hard work, Dia revealed, “The one thing which I have earned which no one can take away from me is my hard work. My social work gives me so much inspiration. It is much more than what my films have given me.”
