The screen adaptation of Gregory David Roberts‘ best-selling novel Shantaram was announced in 2019 and is yet to go on floors.
Reports suggest that Amitabh Bachchan is to join the cast of ‘Shantaram‘; Apple TV’s International web show and will play the role of crime lord Kader Khan. However, the confirmation of the same is still awaited.
Amitabh Bachchan was supposed to star in Mira Nair‘s adaptation of Shantaram in 2007 but the project was later shelved. A source says “Amitabh Bachchan, who was supposed to be part of Nair’s film, will be attached to the series. He is likely to play crime lord Khader Khan.”
A source close to Shantaram said that the movie was to go on floors this year but it has been pushed to 2021 due to the pandemic. A large part of the movie will be shot in Dharavi and South Bombay.
“The makers were keen to roll the project in 2020 but had to postpone the plan due to the pandemic. It’s a classic Bombay story, so the local production team has been looking for low-risk areas to shoot. It will be largely filmed outdoors instead of on a set,” the source added.
Shantaram also stars Radhika Apte, Charlie Hunnam, and Richard Roxburgh. Randeep Hooda will also be seen in the show. This show will be directed by Justin Kurzel and is based on an Australian fugitive who finds a new life in the slums, bars and underworld of India.
