The untimely demise of Sushant Singh Rajput has sparked heated discussions about the mental health of actors and filmmakers. Millenial star, Sushant committed suicide at his Mumbai home on June 14, 2020. According to his family & close friends the actor had symptoms of clinical depression and was consulting a psychiatrist. He also resorted to anti-depression pills to medicate himself.
Mourning the actor’s loss, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has now opened up about his struggles in the industry and troubles with depression. He also talks about how he didn’t have money for more than a year and thought would die soon.
In an interview Nawaz said, “I have always had mazdoor-like hardworking, fighting spirit. I don’t think that I am bigger than them. I had the same intentions as theirs. I didn’t dream of becoming a star. My only intention was to survive and earn for the next meal. It continued for 10 years. I did odd jobs and walked to my friend’s house for food. There were difficult times but we were happy even then. But yes, I did feel depressed at times because of lack of work. Depression and frustration start when you dream big.”
He continued, “Because I wasn’t eating well, so I was getting weak and my hair started falling off. I used to get tired after walking 2 kilometres. I felt as if I am going to die soon. Because of which I used to stay out all day to see the world because I didn’t know how many days will I survive.”
“I had absolutely no money for about a year and a half, I used to eat food at my friend’s house and used to walk for hours around the city. Due to lack of adequate food, my body shrunk and had hair fall too. I used to leave my house around 7 am and used to gaze at traffic and buildings for hours thinking I would die soon and would not be able to see all this again. I used to feel aloof but I thank god for saving me,” he added.
