Actress Tannishtha Chatterjee has been pretty much vocal about racism.
Back in 2015, during ‘Parched’ promotions, the actress had walked out of a comedy show as she was roasted for her skin tone.
Recently, while chatting with Pinkvilla, Tannishtha Chatterjee opened up on society’s obsession with fair skin and how it is “related to the caste system” in our country.
The ‘Beyond the Clouds’ actress also talked about how she is asked to lighten her skin colour with make-up when she is playing an urban character.
“I think it is related to the caste system in our country. This is actually such a prejudice. And now I understood that where that hatred comes from because it actually comes from the fact that we hate our minorities, we hate our castes who are not upper castes. And anyone who looks like them in your mind is also hated,” she said.
She believes that education is important to bring awareness and can improve the current situation of our society.
