The prolific director Vishal Bhardwaj is well known for his masterful adaptations of Shakesperean tragedies – Haider (Hamlet) & Maqbool (Macbeth).
Bhardwaj is now basing his new film franchise on the works of renowned mystery writer Agatha Christie! Isn’t that exciting?
And what’s more interesting is that Vishal has zeroed in on ‘Raazi’ actress Alia Bhatt for this mystery series. As per Peeping Moon report, Alia has given a verbal nod and is waiting for a final narration before officially signing the dotted line.
“It’s almost certain that Alia Bhatt and Vishal Bhardwaj are collaborating. The director is keen to roll the film in January or February and Alia’s dates are being worked out accordingly. However, it’s yet unclear when the film will really get off the ground considering the uncertainty due to the second phase of the lockdown. The project requires to be shot in frosty Himalayan towns and hence if they don’t start the production in January in Uttarakhand (as planned) they will have to shoot the film in foreign later in the second half of 2021.”
Details of which Christie novel is being adapted for the first film have not been revealed yet.
So far, as per BBC report, Vishal Bhardwaj has only unveiled this tidbit – “A murder takes place in a misty Himalayan hill resort. As the whodunit unfolds, a couple almost unwittingly begin sleuthing to get to the bottom of the crime.”
“I’m going to place the story in Auli since the whole plot is rooted in mountains, and the mountains are a character in the story,” Vishal had earlier said.
Bhardwaj will be introducing a new detective couple in the first film, which is scheduled to go on floors early next year. If things go smoothly, Alia Bhatt will be seen as a young girl teaming up with an unlikely companion to solve a murder. Future films will follow the duo as they continue to investigate multiple murder mysteries.
We are waiting to see which hero is cast opposite Bhatt.
“Vishal Bhardwaj has created a fictional world out of Agatha Christie novels. He has adapted her book very differently and has made it a story of a pair of young investigators looking to take over the world with their intelligence and charm. Bhardwaj is currently giving the final touches to his script and will soon visit Alia for the final narration,” the source further added.
Currently, Alia is shooting for Gangubai Kathiawadi in Mumbai. She also two songs pending for Ayan Mukherji’s Brahmastra. Bhatt’s work pipeline also includes – SS Rajamouli’s RRR and an SRK-produced dark-comedy with Vijay Varma.
