1) Saif & Sharmila Tagore Talks About His Marriage & Divorce With Amrita Singh
In the latest episode of KWK S8, the mother-son duo, Sharmila Tagore and Saif Ali Khan spoke their hearts out about the latter’s split with Amrita Singh. Saif revealed he had informed his mother about his marriage to Amrita a day after it happened. He said –
“She (Sharmila Tagore) was supportive when I did it, and I remember it. She had said, ‘I believe you are living with someone and you are doing something’. So I said ‘yes’ and she said that don’t get married. And I said that I got married yesterday. And a big tear fell off of her eye. She started crying and she said ‘you really hurt me, why didn’t you tell me’. So that’s actually what happened there.”
He further shared that he spoke to his mother first after he decided to part ways with Amrita. He said, “About the separation, the first person I spoke to before the separation was my mother, who took a deep breath and there was another pause on the phone and said, ‘I am with you if that is what you want’ and that helped a lot.”
Calling the separation time not so ‘harmonious’, Sharmila Ji added –
“When you are together for such a long time and you have such lovely children, then no break up is easy. Then it is not a harmonious… I know it is difficult to have harmony at that stage, everybody is hurt… so that stage was not nice, but I tried. But that’s water under the bridge, she needed time to cool down.”
For the unversed, Saif Ali Khan & Amrita Singh got married in 1991 and divorced nearly 13 years later in 2004.
2) Sharmila Ji Reveals Why She Opted Out Of RRKPK
Did you know Sharmila Tagore was the first choice for Shabana Azmi’s role in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani. During the conversation, Karan Johar revealed Sharmila Ji couldn’t do the role because of her health. Talking about it, the filmmaker said –
“I was so sad to not have you. I had offered Sharmila ji the part played by Shabana ji. She was my very first choice. Because of health reasons at that time, she couldn’t say yes but it is a regret I have.”
Citing health reasons and the absence of Covid vaccines at that time, the veteran actress further added –
“This is at the height of Covid. They hadn’t really grappled with Covid at that time. They didn’t know the vaccine… We were not vaccinated. You know, after my cancer. So, they didn’t want me to take that risk.”
