Dunki Movie Review:
Dunki is overall an entertaining ride from start-to-finish and it has a lot of heart and wholesome moments. But it is unfortunately quite a mediocre offering from Rajkumar Hirani this time.
Shah Rukh Khan gives it his all but the comedy falls flat in spite of his goofy charm. However, he rules in the emotional scenes with his intense eyes and arresting screen presence. Vicky Kaushal has a limited role but has given an extremely touching performance and holds his own remarkably against SRK in the dramatic scenes.
Dunki Movie Review:
A very natural, charming performance by Taapsee – she’s sweet, vulnerable yet fiery and perseverant. Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu shine individually but their couple chemistry feels lacklustre.
That being said -the camaraderie between the gang is infectious and feels organic. Boman Irani has a brief screen time but he’s adorable in his role. The supporting cast is excellent – balancing the humor and drama nicely. There are no complaints in the acting department there. The material they’re given is a little half-baked though. The humour and gags feel outdated.
Dunki Movie Review:
1st half is engaging in the start but seems to drag a little and feels hollow. After a shocking interval, the 2nd half picks up pace and when they finally get into the illegal immigration Dunki troubles, you get more invested in the characters.
There’s a really funny ending sequence and the film ends on a high note with a bittersweet, emotionally-heavy climax. The soundtrack is generic and apart from a few songs nothing particularly stays back.
Overall, a sentimental drama, high on emotion and packed with humour that’s a bit of a hit-and-miss. It lacks the trademark Rajkumar Hirani punch and can be considered one of his weakest films. Yet still, it ends up being a rather wholesome, family-friendly watch.
Hit Or Miss:
Worth watching once in the theatre if you’re bored of massy action and need a heartwarming film to unwind with.
