Amitabh Bachchan is a legend and his pictures and voices are often used for commercial purposes.
However, it won’t be possible anymore as the actor has acquired the security of his personality rights.
As per reports, Amitabh Bachchan recently filed a suit in the Delhi High Court, seeking protection of his image, name, voice, and personality rights against the world at large.
According to ETimes, on Friday (November 25), the court has granted an interim order restraining persons at large from infringing Bachchan’s personality and publicity rights.
“It cannot be disputed that the plaintiff is a well-known personality and is also represented in various advertisements. The plaintiff is aggrieved by the defendants using his celebrity status to promote their own goods and services without his permission or authorisation. Having considered the plaint, I am of the opinion that a prima facie case is made out”, the court reportedly said.
The HC has also directed the DOT and Ministry of Electronics & IT to pull down all links/websites that infringe upon Bachchan’s attributes.
As reported by The Indian Express, Senior Advocate Harish Salve, appearing for Bachchan, revealed that some people were running a lottery using Bachchan’s name and the KBC logo, while others were selling T-shirts with his image.
“This nonsense has been going on for a while… there is a lottery in Gujarat where the defendant has brazenly copied (the) logo of KBC where his photographs are all over it.”
– the senior advocate stated.
The 80-year-old actor has also sought a restraining order against book publishers, T-shirt vendors and various other businesses.
As per reports, the matter will be heard in March next year.
