The Nightingale of India – Lata Mangeshkar – has passed away today at the age of 92 due to multiple organ failure.
A two-day national mourning will be observed and the national flag will fly at half-mast for two days as a mark of respect for the legendary singer.
From National Awards, Bharat Ratna to Dada Saheb Phalke, Padma Vibhushan and many more… Late Lata Ji had received several prestigious awards and recognitions for her unmatchable contribution to the world of music.
Did you guys know that the late singer had once held a Guinness World Record? Between 1948 and 1974, Lata Ji had supposedly recorded 25,000 songs in various languages. Following the same, the Guinness Book of Records had listed Lata Mangeshkar as ‘the most recorded artist in music hisory’ in its edition in 1974.
Reportedly, the claim was later contested by Mohammed Rafi, who whad allegedly claimed to have sung around 28,000 songs. However, the book continued to list Lata’s name along with Rafi’s claim. The entry was removed in 1991 until 2011.
For the unversed, in 2011, Lata’s sister Asha Bhosle was officially ackowledged by the Guinness World Record for having the most single studio recordings in the world.
Late Lata Mangeshkar recorded songs in different languages including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi amongst others.
