Parikrama has been rocking the world for now around 30 years, a no means feat for a band not only in India but the world over.
They have always done things their way and never compromised to the whims of the market, playing English Rock and Roll starting with small venues to filling up stadiums.
On the 28th of August 2019, the band released their much appreciated single ‘Tears Of The Wizard’ which was shot in an exclusive location in Arunachal Pradesh called Mechuka. Their first concert was held at this very magical land on the 25th of November 2017. It was soon decided, while the team flew over the beautiful valley in a chopper, that they had to shoot TOTW there.
The track ‘Tears Of The Wizard’ has completed 2 glorious years today and interestingly, it is based on the Lord Of The Rings movie franchise. More specifically, is inspired by the wizard character – Gandalf the Grey. The track also gives magical surrealism the perfect rock vibe.
The music video, produced by GooseOnDaLoose Films and directed by Sujit Jha, celebrates its second birthday today! The founding member and lead guitarist of Parikrama, Sonam Sherpa, had passed away on the 14th of February, 2020. He was 48 at the time and reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest. The band dedicates the two years of ‘Tears of The Wizard’ to the late Sonam for all the support and love he had given the members.
On June 17th this year, Parikrama completed 30 years of togetherness. The band was formed on June 17th, 1991. Lead vocalist Nitin Malik spoke to Rolling Stone India about what still motivates Parikrama after 30 years.
He says, “We all believe in a common philosophy. We may have done thousands of shows but each one is new for us. It’s the crowd that drives us and when they have paid money and come with expectations, the last thing we want to do is disappoint them. We follow that same diktat at free shows and corporate gigs too.”
