The ‘Ranjhanaa’ actor- Dhanush – who is an avid lover of luxurious cars, owns a Rolls-Royce Ghost worth Rs 2.15 crores (approx).
Reportedly, Dhanush had imported the lavish car from the UK in 2015.
Now, looks like the actor has landed into trouble because of the super-expensive car. Dhanush had earlier filed a writ petition seeking an entry tax exemption for his Rolls-Royce. As per HT, the commercial tax department, then, imposed a tax of Rs 60.66 lakhs as a pre-condition to issuing the NOC (no-objection certificate). In 2015, Dhanush was asked to pay 50 percent of the tax amount.
On Thursday (August 5), when Dhanush’s plea came up for hearing, his counsel wanted to withdraw the petition of 2015 and had also agreed to pay the rest of the entry tax.
However, the Madras High Court not only refused to withdraw Dhanush’s petition but also criticized the actor, and directed him to pay Rs 30.33 lakhs (pending entry tax amount) within 48 hours.
According to India Today, during the hearing, Justice SM Subramaniam said, “You are going to drive the car on the roads which are laid by the taxpayers’ money. Will the car fly in the air if you buy from foreign? Every citizen who puts petrol for Rs 50 pays taxes. Buy a helicopter too. It is unacceptable not to pay taxes on it. Even daily wagers are buying soap, which is taxed. Are they filing a case?”
The Court also stated that the petitioner should mention their profession in the plea.
