1. Shah Rukh Khan
Shah Rukh Khan, or as we know him – King Khan, is one of our favourite actors of all time! While in Delhi University, Shah Rukh Khan was a part of the Theatre Action Group, where he studied under Barry John.
2. Irrfan Khan
The late Irrfan Khan has given us performances to remember for generations. He too had started off with theatre. In 1984, he bagged a scholarship at NSD after which he relied on theatres and television to make the ends meet.
3. Rajkummar Rao
Rajkummar Rao started off with theatre too as per a report. During his tenure in Delhi University, he actively worked in theatre with Kshitij Repertory and Shri Ram Centre.
4. Anupam Kher
Anupam Kher started his career with theatre after graduating from National School of Drama, Delhi. He has been a chairperson at NSD between 2001 to 2004. Critically acclaimed for all kinds of roles, he has also received Padma Bhushan.
5. Naseeruddin Shah
Naseeruddin Shah too attended NSD. He, along with Tom Alter and Benjamin Gilani, formed a theatre group named Motley Productions. A few of his appreciated and acclaimed movies are Aakrosh (1980), Sarfarosh (1999), A Wednesday (2008) Sparsh (1979), Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983), Mirch Masala (1987), Masoom (1984), and Pestonjee (1988). Naseeruddin also appeared in international projects like The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) and Monsoon Wedding (2001).
6. Paresh Rawal
Paresh Rawal’s performances have always been nothing short of stellar. However, this legendary actor too started off with theatre. Some of his plays include Kishan vs Kanhaiya and Dear Father.
7. Manoj Bajpai
Manoj Bajpai, as per a report, had always wanted to go to the National School of Drama, he was rejected by NSD several times. He also did a lot of street theatre at the time of his graduation. Finally, when he was recognized as an amazing theatre actor due to his various plays, NSD offered him to join in, but not as a student, as a teacher.
