The first Indian Miss Universe (1994) and Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen also has a few words to spill on the hottest topic of B-Town, nepotism. Ever since the passing away of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput on the 14th of June, nepotism has caused debates all around the internet on multiple social media platforms.
In an interview by PTI, Sushmita spoke openly about nepotism not being a new concept in this industry.
Sushmita on nepotism
“There has been a discussion about it all over the media and everywhere at this moment. (But) We all have been enduring it, it is not new. Is this something that we have just realised?”
“That competitiveness – or now everybody says this word ‘nepotism’ – is a truth you have known for as long as the industry has existed. With awareness, social and digital space, it has increased thousands of folds. If it needs to change, then all of us need to take responsibility, not one person.”
Sushmita on criticism
The beauty addresses criticism too. She speaks on how she doesn’t look at failures as a negative phase. Sen has a mindset wherein she isn’t the failure, her attempts to succeed have failed.
Adding to her conversation on nepotism she says, “If you tell me, I fail, I suddenly can’t hear you because that is not acceptable to me. That gives me enough strength to continue. As human beings, we have so much potential that if you allow other people, even if there is a huge crowd of people, that you have failed and not your attempt, there will come a time when you will start to believe it.”
“People should not, in any profession, be destructive or envious of other people’s success. You may not always applaud it but to be envious generates this kind of vicious circle where people just (think) ‘he thought bad of me now wait till his release, I will think bad of him’. It is a vicious circle that continues and nobody ends up gaining, everybody losses.”
Aarya
Sushmita Sen can now be seen making a comback post a very long break off screen with her new thriller television web series Aarya. The first season was released on the 19th of June.
