After the tragic and untimely demise of the talented actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the Debate of #Nepotism has again come to life on social media.
#JusticeForSushantSinghRajput, #BoycottFakeStars, #BoycottKaranJohar were seen to be trending on Twitter.
Riding this new wave against nepotism in the aftermath of Sushant’s tragedy, people have started unfollowing Bollywood Celebs like Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, Sonam Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Ananya Panday and others on social media.
Heavily criticized and trolled on social media about promoting nepotism, Karan Johar’s Instagram account took a massive hit. It went from 11 Million followers on Monday to 10.8 million followers currently in the span of two days.
Alia Bhatt’s Instagram profile also registered a steep decline. She lost more than over 4 lakh followers on Tuesday and went from 48.7 million to 48.2 million followers.
Sonam K Ahuja’s Instagram follower count also noticed a downfall of over 77 k. Her profile went from 29.2 million to 29.1 million followers.
Sonakshi Sinha too has lost over 53 k followers and is currently at 18.6 million.
Ananya Panday’s profile on Instagram saw a decrease of more than 35 k followers. She is currently at a following of 12.2 million.
On the other hand, ever since Kangana Ranaut blasted the Bollywood Privilege Club with her rant on Sushant’s death, there was an upward rise in Kangana’s followers from 2.2 million to 3.6 million.
“I would like to see talent on my timeline rather than a relative of a famous Khan or Kapoor,” said Thunlai Brahma, a Delhi University student.
“I cannot support celebrities who value personal relationships over talent when it comes to giving work in the industry” – said Santi Sankar, a Gurugram-based entrepreneur.
Meanwhile, online petitions demanding justice for the late actor and boycotting Bollywood Bigwigs have also kick-started.
Though an outsider to the industry, Sushant Singh Rajput was a talented, self-made star with successful films like Kai Po Che, M S Dhoni: The Untold Story, Kedarnath and Chhichhore in his repertoire. The tragedy of his untimely demise has challenged the current status quo of Bollywood.
