Many people don’t know about Alia Bhatt‘s German connection.
The actress recently made a grand entry at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival as ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi‘ had a world premiere there.

For the unversed, this was Alia’s 3rd appearance at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival. Previously, ‘Highway’ (2014) and ‘Gully Boy’ (2019) were also screened there.
Alia Bhatt German Connection:
Back in 2014, before going for Highway premiere in Berlin, the actress had revealed that her grandparents were from Germany. She also added that her grandmother, Gertrud, was German and was born in the European nation.
In addition, Alia’a maternal great grandfather used to run an underground newspaper against German dictator Adolf Hitler. As per reports, he was caught by the authorities and imprisoned for two years and her maternal grandmother then escaped to Czechoslovakia and later to England.
Confirming the same, Alia’s father-filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt had tweeted about it and shared some more details in 2014.
