Priyanka Chopra Jonas has successfully created her mark not only in Bollywood but in Hollywood also.
She was last seen in the Netflix movie The White Tiger, co-starring Rajkummar Rao & Adarsh Gourav.
The actress currently has Hollywood flicks, like Text For You and Matrix 4 in her kitty. But reports have been doing rounds that Priyanka is supposedly doing a biopic based on a controversial figure of the ’80s.
As HT reported, PeeCee is working on a project based on the life of Ma Anand Sheela, ex-secretary of the late spiritual leader Bhagwan Rajneesh aka Osho, with Barry Levinson for Amazon.
“I am developing a feature with Barry Levinson. He is an iconic American director. We are developing it (from the perspective of) Sheela who is this guru who originated from India. She was Osho’s right-hand woman and she was devious. She created a whole cult in America. He was called Osho. I don’t know if you’ve heard of him. I am developing that next for me to star in and produce,” Priyanka Chopra Jonas said in an interview.
However, in 2019, Sheela sent a legal notice to Priyanka for doing the project without her permission. Talking to a leading daily, she said, “I told her I do not give her permission to do [the] film because I have not chosen her… In Switzerland, we send legal notices very simply. I sent her an email which is accepted there as legal.”
For the unversed, Shakun Batra is apparently working on another series based on Sheela’s life, the time when she was an aide to Osho. The series might feature Alia in the lead role.
Talking about Priyanka doing a project on her life, Sheela told Film Companion, “I’m a bad judge on that issue. I have no ability to judge someone in the film role. Only thing I would say I have been natural and Shakun (Batra) will have a hard task of looking for someone natural.”
Meanwhile, on April 22 (today), a documentary based on Sheela’s life titled Searching For Sheela has been released on Netflix. The documentary is being produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment & Shakun Batra.
