Sumeet Vyas has been on a rollercoaster from being a writer to an actor and he has given us a sneak peek into his journey.
Sumeet spilt interesting advice on success and deets on his web series 1962: The War in the Hills!
In an exclusive chat with Instant Bollywood, Vyas spoke about being one of the first few people to ever have an OTT release. “There was permanent roommates, which was the first web series to happen in India. Before that nobody was on OTT platforms. I did it purely for the sake of experiment. I really like the TVF bunch, I’ve seen their work and I wanted to work with them. I’ve no real hopes or expectations that this is going to get famous. I just wanted to work with people who I really appreciated. Even for the decade and a half when I was doing theatre, I was always looking to work with new directors. Although that would not make me popular, it would just encourage me as an artist, every time I work in a new set up.”
He continued, “Similarly, even in films and now OTT, I look forward to work with new directors, new people with fresher perspectives and narratives to tell a story. Permanent roommates did well, and since I write, I bounced a couple of ideas with TVF and they were kind enough to like it and that’s how tripling happened. We wrote the series and they’re a great bunch of people, they still are! So when TVF Tripling had come out, it was one of the biggest shows.”
Sumeet also spoke on success and inspiration. “I think one should try and inspire you. Success is not permanent. It’s not going to stay like that forever and similarly if things are not going your way, it isn’t going to be like that forever. So you cant just keep celebrating one success for the rest of your life. You can give a smashing hit of a show, film or album but by the next month, people would have forgotten about it because someone else comes up with something more interesting. Every day something new happens so you have to keep telling a new story.”
1962: The War in the Hills
It was a lovely experience for me. I have always been wanting to do a show or a film where I get to do a lot of action and I always wanted to play a soldier because, in reality, I didn’t get to do it so at least on screen id be able to play the role. It was fantastic. Physically it was very taxing but I hope it comes together well. It is a very well made show and I hope it connects with the audience.
Who Is The Sumeet Vyas You’d Like Your Fans To Know Too?
I would like them to know that I don’t take shortcuts. I don’t do stuff because it is going to make me popular. The only place where I am absolutely honest is when I’m acting, I’m not faking it. I want my fans to know that every year I’m trying to discover new stories and narratives. So if I write a story or acting in a film, the first thought is ‘will I sit and watch this’?
What Is The Highlight Of Your Career?
The highlight is now, I’m sort of in a place where I’m not just stuck because I can be a writer, an actor, a director. I can do different kinds of things. I want to do roles that are very immersive. Being an actor, every time we’re chasing this high where we get to do a role and get so consumed by it that you forget who you are and become that person. So I’m constantly chasing that high or that experience. The more number of times that I get to do it, the more dreams come true.“
What Is Your Favourite Activity Away From Work?
The one thing that I really love doing is riding a motorcycle and going on bike trips. I used to do a lot of it back in the day but for the last 4 years I haven’t been able to do it then the pandemic happened. But now I’m going to do it very soon!
