Besides being much-loved, Amazon Prime’s much-anticipated series ‘Mirzapur’ has created several controversies.
On Jan 17, an FIR was filed by Arvind Chaturvedi against the makers of the show.
Arvind alleged that the web series presented Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh in a bad light. The objection was also raised on the way it has been projected.
The FIR was registered against Akhtar and Sidhwani at Kotwali Dehat Police Station in Mirzapur district under sections 295-A, 504, 505, and 34 of IPC and 67-A of the IT Act.
Meanwhile, one week ago, a plea was filed in the Supreme Court by a Mirzapur resident, Sujeet Kumar Singh. The petitioner claimed that the show had tarnished the district’s name.
Now, as PeepingMoon reported, the Allahabad High Court on Friday stayed the arrest of the ‘Mirzapur’ web series producers- Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, in connection with the FIR filed against them in Mirzapur district.
However, the court directed the petitioners to offer full cooperation in the investigation while granting relief.
Hearing a writ petition filed by Farhan & Ritesh, a division bench comprising Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta and Subhash Chand also issued notice to the state govt. and the complainant in the matter seeking their respective replies.
The court has directed to list this case in the first week of March.
