The Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is no stranger to controversy.
He has now been BANNED by FWICE – who has decided that none of their 32 Unions will ever work with him in the future!
Why has FWICE (Federation of Western India Cine Employees) taken such a strict action, you ask?
It’s because RGV has reportedly been accused of not paying his dues to artistes, technicians and workers. Indian Express reports that the pending amount is a whopping 1.25 crore!
FWICE president BN Tiwari said that the film body had written several letters asking Ram Gopal Verma to clear his pending dues. When those letters failed to get a response, the association served the filmmaker with a legal notice on September 17, 2020.
RGV did not reply even to the legal notice nor did he pay the pending amount and hence, FWICE has decided to boycott him. The association also notified the Chief Minister of Goa about RGV’s alleged non-payment of dues after they learned that the filmmaker was shooting his next project there.
“We also sent a letter to the Chief Minister of Goa on September 10, 2020, regarding this. We wanted Ram Gopal Varma to clear the dues of poor technicians, artistes and workers but he never did. Hence, we have decided to not work with him in the future. We have also notified Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association (IMPPA) and Producers Guild of India (GUILD), among other unions about this,” Tiwari said in a statement.
On the work front, the filmmaker returned to the horror genre with the psychological horror thriller – 12’0 clock.
