Indian thrillers are slaying the OTT space lately! And now joining the list, we have Sushmita Sen-starrer, ‘Aarya’ – a crime thriller web series which will premiere June 19 on Disney+ Hotstar with 9 episodes.
Helmed by ‘Neerja’ Director Ram Madhvani, Aarya is the official Hindi remake of the popular Dutch crime series Penoza. Sushmita Sen will be playing the strong female lead – who turns from A Homemaker to a Hardened Criminal!
This is the story of family, betrayal and crime; when a housewife has to reluctantly take over her husband’s illegal narcotics business after he is attacked, instead of turning into a state witness. To protect her family from criminals, she needs to become one herself!
The film also stars Chandrachur Singh, Sikander Kher, Ankur Bhatia, Alexx ONell, Namit Das, Manish Choudhary.
Last seen in the 2010 movie No Problem, Former Miss Universe and actress Sushmita Sen makes her digital debut with this series, after a decade-long break from the spotlight. The actress has thanked her fans for patiently waiting for her comeback.
Talking about her role as the protagonist, she says that in a world full of crime, run by men, Aarya represents strength, determination and vulnerability. It is a strong take on women in power roles.
“For me, personally, it is the story of a mother who is willing to go to any lengths to protect her children. It took me a decade to find a role like this to sink into and I’m thrilled to be a part of this incredible story.”
The Director Ram Madhvani says, “The world of Aarya is a complex web of emotions, twisted family bonds and betrayal at the heart of it all. It’s a bold and strong narrative that takes it beyond the spectrum of a crime-drama.”
Fun fact:-7 years ago, when it was starting, Aarya was initially supposed to be a movie, but it was shelved one month before filming could be commenced. And now it has gone for the web series format.
