A Wedding Story Movie Review; Good Concept & Strong Performances But Predictable

Rating: 3/5

Director: Abhinav Pareek

Cast: Vaibhav Tatwawadi, Mukti Mohan, Akshay Anand, Monica Chaudhary, Lakshvir Singh Saran

Storyline:

A couple’s upcoming nuptials get derailed when there’s a death in the family during the inauspicious Panchak kaal. Things take a dark turn when the deceased member’s son Tarun (Lakshvir Singh Saran) refuses to carry out a ritual – that is burning 5 dolls to ward off a curse.

This action ends up jeopardising Preeti (Mukti Mohan) and Vikram’s (Vaibhav Tatwawadi) wedding. As the family – including Vikram’s sister (Monica Chaudhary) and father (Akshay Anand) gather together for the wedding celebrations, a series of ominous events take place. Death looms around every corner…

Will the wedding come through or will the curse get the better of this family?

A Wedding Story Movie Review:

A Wedding Story has an interesting premise and starts off promisingly. But ultimately, it ends up being very predictable and cliche.

The spooky music helps in maintaining the tension through the movie. But unnecessary filler dance songs bog down the momentum of the narrative.

Instead of delving more into the mystery of the Panchak Kaal, the film gets stuck in a loop of predictable jumpscares and horror tropes. The 1st half is intriguing but the film loses its steam in the middle. The climax doesn’t deliver on the pay-off.

There are no complaints on the acting front – the film boasts of good performances, especially Vaibhav Tatwawadi and Mukti Mohan as the lead couple getting tormented by the circumstances. They both balance the horror and drama well. Lakshvir Singh Saran appears in a limited role but is effective. Monica Chaudhary and Akshay Anand are efficient as the supporting cast.

Overall, A Wedding Story had a good concept that is marred by weak writing.
