Mr And Mrs Mahi Movie Review:
Mr and Mrs Mahi has its heart in the right place but ultimately ends up being a very lukewarm film. The movie works when it is exploring the couple’s dynamic – pride and enthusiasm mixed with resentment and insecurity brewing between the two. But when it comes to the actual sporty scenes, it is devoid of excitement.
While packed with heartwarming scenes between Rajkummar-Janhvi, the 1st half is very slow burn and predictable. The 2nd half picks up pace, when the jealousy and resentment seeps in, turning the supportive dynamic between the husband-wife hostile.
Mr And Mrs Mahi Movie Review:
But while their personal conflict is interesting enough, the cricket scenes are simply run-of-the-mill stuff. Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor do have a solid, adorable, believable chemistry. Rajkummar keeps the momentum of the scene going, especially when emotions are running high, but in some places Janhvi struggles to keep up. During one peak emotional scene, it looks like she is trying to keep her giggles at bay.
Rajkummar portrays the frustration and vulnerability of his character well. Kumud Mishra gives a top-notch performance as the disappointed father. Janhvi Kapoor is decent enough but is let down by the lacklustre cricket scenes.
Overall, Mr and Mrs Mahi is a heartwarming film but a thoroughly average watch as a sports drama.
