Heer Chawla (Guru Randhawa) is madly in love with Iraa (Saie Manjrekar) but the latter is determined that her true love is her aspiration of becoming an IAS officer.

To get their families off their backs, the two enter into a marriage of convenience. While things are strictly platonic between the couple, a hilarious misunderstanding by Heer’s aunt (Ila Arun) makes the family think that Iraa is pregnant. Heer’s grandfather (Anupam Kher) who has been pestering him for an heir, is overjoyed at this.

Instead of coming clean, Iraa and Heer continue the pregnancy charade, figuring that the time off from family duties will help Iraa focus on her studies. But things take a turn for the worse when the ruse comes crashing down in the most unexpected way.

Singer Guru Randhawa (of Naach Meri Rani, High-rated Gabru, Lagdi Lahore Di fame) has made his acting debut with Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay.

While it has its heart in the right place, the rom-com has a bizarre, muddling plot that goes into too many directions – from IVF, and surrogacy to double marriage. It is enough to create a whiplash. It introduces too many elements without following them up with a proper see-through. Thus, resulting in a well-intentioned yet incoherent mess.

The humour is hit-and-miss, mostly hinging on slapstick comedy and cringe one-liners and puns.

The soundtrack is pleasant on the ears but fairly generic. Guru Randhawa exudes a goofy charm in his debut performance. While he hits the right note with the comedy, he fails to keep up in the emotional and dramatic scenes.

Saiee Manjrekar too seems to suffer a strange stiffness in her acting, particularly in the emotional scenes, where she feels monotonous. She does have sufficient chemistry with Guru but it is not enough to keep the rom-com engaging. Veteran Anupam Kher gives a masterful performance and keeps the bar high in this otherwise confusing comedy. Ila Arun too brings a convincing balance of humour and drama to the movie.

Paritosh Tripathi has good comic timing and manages to make his lines work. Tollywood comedian Brahmanandam has a brief, comic role that will elicit a few chuckles.

Hit Or Miss:

This comedy falls flat and is a bit of a miss, despite Guru Randhawa’s earnest effort!
