Saroj Khan Biopic in the making?
The legendary Bollywood choreographer passed away on 3 July 2020 at Guru Nanak Hospital, Mumbai due to a cardiac arrest.
Saroj Khan Biopic:
The 3-time National Award winner breathed her last at the age of 71. On her first death anniversary, T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar had announced a biopic on Saroj ji.
Bhushan had previously announced on Twitter that he’s acquired the rights to the story of her life from her family.
Hansal Mehta To Direct?
As per Pinkvilla report, Hansal Mehta will be helming this biopic. It is currently in the writing stage, with Hansal’s team doing extensive research into the subject matter. The project might start shooting sometime in 2024. The biopic will be told in an episodic format allegedly.
About Saroj Khan:
During her over 4-decade-long career, Saroj had choreographed more than 3,500 songs, including- Hawa Hawai (Mr. India), Ek Do Teen (Tezaab), Tamma Tamma Loge (Thanedaar), Dhak Dhak Karne Laga (Beta), Dola Re Dola (Devdas), Ye Ishq Haaye (Jab We Met), to name a few.
Khan won Filmfare 8 times for her outstanding choreography in these movies – Guru (Barso Re and Tere Bina), Devdas (Maar Dala and Dola Re ), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (Nimbooda), Khalnayak (Choli Ke Peeche), Beta (Dhak Dhak Karne Laga), Sailaab (Humko Aajkal Hai Intezaar, Chaalbaaz (Na Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai) and Tezaab (Ek Do Teen).
She also won Three National Awards for Devdas, Sringaram and Jab We Met. Bollywood new-gen actresses like Sara Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor and Ananya Panday took lessons from the Maestro Saroj Khan before joining Bollywood!
Did you know Saroj’s real name was Nirmala Nagpal? That’s right. She became an assistant dance director at the tender age of 12 and was teaching dance to actors like Helen and Vyjayanthimala.
