Ahead of the release, Alia Bhatt‘s Gangubai Kathiawadi faces legal trouble again.
Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the movie features Ajay Devgn and Shantanu Maheshwari in pivotal roles.
For the unversed, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is based on one of the chapters from Hussain Zaidi’s book, ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’.
In 2021, Gangubai’s purported adopted son Babu Raoji Shah and her granddaughter Bharti had filed a defamation suit against Alia, SLB, and author Hussain in Bombay High Court to seek a permanent order restraining the printing and circulation of the book, deleting specific chapters, and halting production of the film.
However, the Bombay HC refused to grant a stay on the release of the movie and granted an interim stay on proceedings against the makers.
Gangubai Kathiawadi Controversy:
Now, according to HT, Gangubai’s family has expressed displeasure over Gangubai’s portrayal in the film and has also sought a stay on the film’s release. Imposing defamation charges against SLB and Hussain, notices have reportedly been sent to them.
Talking to Aaj Tak, Gangubai’s 74-year-old adopted son slammed the makers and said –
“My mother has been turned into a prostitute. People are now saying inexplicable things about my mother.”
Advocate Narendra Dubey, who is fighting the case on behalf of Gangubai’s adopted children, told the daily –
“The way Gangubai was portrayed is completely wrong and baseless. It is vulgar. You are representing a social activist as a prostitute. Which family would like it? You have made her (Gangubai) a vamp and lady don.”
Gangubai Kathiawadi Release Date:
