Ranveer Singh will next be seen as Kapil Dev in the movie ’83’ which chronicles India’s historic win at the 1983 World Cup.
Directed by Kabir Khan, the biographical sports drama is set to release in theatres on December 24, 2021.
Deepika Padukone, who plays the role of Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Bhatia, is the co-producer of the movie. While the Ranveer Singh starrer has been creating a lot buzz since the announcement, the movie has now landed into legal trouble ahead of its release.
According to India Today, a UAE-based finance company named Future Resource FZE has allegedly filed a complaint against Deepika, Sajid Nadiadwala, Kabir Khan and other producers of ’83’ for alleged cheating.
The financer has even approached the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Mumbai, seeking action against the makers of the film under IPC sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
In the complaint, FZE has alleged that his company was promised good returns by Vibri Media after they invested approximately Rs 16 crores. Reportedly, the complainant’s money was allegedly used for the production of 83 without getting any written consent from him.
Advocate Rizwan Siddiquee, who is representing FZE, reportedly claimed that his client has filed a criminal complaint against all the producers of ‘83 on the grounds of cheating and criminal conspiracy.
The advocate told the daily, “It is true that my client has filed a criminal complaint against all the Producers of the film 83 on the grounds of cheating and criminal conspiracy. My client had no other option but to initiate strict legal proceedings, as the producers did not seem interested in resolving the dispute amicably, despite full knowledge of my client’s rights. The matter would now be taken up by respective Courts.”
