Priyanka Chopra’s cousin actress Meera Chopra (of Section 375 and 1920 London fame) was in for a rude shock while designing her new house.
She hit the headlines after news broke out that she had filed an FIR against her interior decorator Rajinder Dewan for duping her and being abusive with her.
The complaint was filed at Oshiwara Police station 2 MONTHS ago – under sections 354 (outraging a woman’s modesty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) and 509 (insulting modesty of a woman).
What Happened?
Talking about the incident, Meera told Bollywood Hungama – “I bought a new house in Andheri, Mumbai. I hired an interior designer from Oshiwara, named Rajinder Dewan, to design the house. I had to go to Banaras for a shoot for 15-20 days. So we signed an agreement and the price we fixed was Rs. 17 lakhs. He asked me to pay Rs. 8 lakhs, that is, nearly 50% of the payment in advance and he assured me that he’ll get most of the work while I am out of town. I didn’t know him that well but there was a trust factor.”
Meera further elaborated that she had left him designs and specifications of the woodwork and ply to be used. But on returning from the shoot, she found out he had used substandard material.
When Rajinder was told to change it, he refused. Meera continued – “He is quite senior to me; he’s nearly 50 years old. So I respectfully told him ‘Aap please aise mat karo. Nahin toh main aapse kaam nahi kara paungi’. To which he got extremely abusive in front of all the workers. You won’t believe this; he pushed me out of my own house and told me ‘Tum aise bola mat karo…warna workers kaam nahi karenge’. Imagine, unhone meri hi ghar se mujhe bahar nikal diya!”
An enraged Meera then decided to not work with the designer anymore and told him to give her the expenditure bills of the work done and return the balance amount. However, he didn’t return any money.
And hence, Meera is now pursuing legal action. Meera said – “As a girl staying alone in Mumbai, I can only go to a certain extent to get help. I don’t have a family here. I know some people here par main ek extent tak unse favour maang sakti hoon. There’s a police department and they are supposed to do their work.”
While Meera is still waiting for the police to see this to a conclusion, she updated that she had to hire a new interior designer and her new house is almost ready now.
“In fact, I’ll be shifting to my new house in the next 2-3 days.”
