Scam 1992 fame Pratik Gandhi is all set for his Bollywood debut.
His first Hindi film as lead – ‘Raavan Leela’ is slated to hit the theatres on 1st October 2021. The Hardik Gajjar directorial has paired him opposite Aindrita Ray.
The trailer of the musical drama dropped recently – opening to mixed reactions. While Pratik’s performance was praised, there was backlash and controversy over the title ‘Raavan Leela’.
In fact, as per ANI report, a legal notice was sent to the makers by one Kamlesh Devidayal Gupta, over the title. He accused the film of attacking the concept of Ram Leela and its significance in Hinduism and glorifying Ravana.
The makers have decided to change the title to avoid controversy and not hurt any sentiments – the film is now being called ‘Bhavai’ instead. Bhavai is a popular folk theatre form, especially in Gujarat.
Commenting on the change, Pratik told the media – “When it comes to beliefs, it is a very tricky situation, because it can be anything and still you don’t want to hurt anyone’s beliefs. Our story is also very different and is such that it will not affect anyone’s beliefs. But I understand why the makers have changed it.”
