Rajkummar Rao is known for his dedication to the craft and his willingness to go the extra mile for the role.
To pull off his phenomenal performance in Vikramaditya Motwane’s survival drama film ‘Trapped’, Rajkummar left no stone unturned during the character prep.
The movie featured him as Shaurya – a guy who mistakenly locks himself inside his new apartment. Trapped without any food, water, electricity or neighbours nearby, he has to beat all odds to survive!
In order to get into the desperate mind frame of his character, he went on an extreme diet and drastically lost weight – around 6-7 kilos in 22 DAYS!
“I was having a cup of black coffee and two carrots a day in order to survive. Shaurya is trapped inside a house for almost 3 weeks without any food or water. It is a survival drama. I wanted to feel the hunger and desperation that one goes through, if put in such extreme conditions,” he told DNA.
This role was truly challenging for him, not just physically but also morally. Despite being a vegetarian, he had to eat meat to make the film seem more authentic!
He revealed – “Vikramaditya Motwane required me to treat the scene in a real manner. We tried enacting the scene with an alternative, but the result wasn’t satisfying. It was then that we realised that for a vegetarian like me, the emotions and the difficulty to dig my teeth into meat would only come to the forefront once I actually did it. The experience was one of the most toughest calls I have had to take as an actor.“
