Fans can’t wait to watch Alia Bhatt’s highly-anticipated movie ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
The crime drama is based on Hussain Zaidi’s book- ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’.
Earlier, the 74-year-old Babuji Rawji Shah– who claims to be the adopted son of the late Gangubai- had filed a defamation suit against Alia, SLB, and author Hussain in Mumbai sessions court.
He had alleged that the chapter on Gangubai Kathiawadi in ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ was defamatory, tarnished her reputation, and infringed upon his deceased mother’s right to privacy and self-respect.
However, the court had rejected his suit and Shah had moved to Bombay High Court to seek a permanent order restraining the printing and circulation of the book, deleting specific chapters, and halting production of the film.
Now, as per a media report, the Bombay HC has apparently refused to grant a stay on the release of the movie and has also granted an interim stay on proceedings against Alia and SLB.
The next date of hearing is said to be on September 7. “In the meantime, till the next date, the proceeding before the trial court, qua (with regard to) the applicants, is stayed,” the court said.
Meanwhile, the movie was scheduled to hit the theatres on July 30 but got delayed due to the pandemic.
