Rumoured couple Kiara Advani-Sidharth Malhotra will be seen onscreen together for the first time in ‘Shershaah’.
The upcoming biopic is based on the life of Param Vir Chakra Awardee and Kargil War Hero – Captain Vikram Batra.
Codenamed ‘Shershaah’, Vikram Batra was martyred during the 1999 Kargil War with Pakistan while saving his fellow soldier! Did you know this fierce braveheart had a love story that was equally larger-than-life?
While Sidharth plays the titular role of Batra, Kiara will be seen as his love interest Dimple Cheema. From college romance, long-distance relationship to Dimple’s eternal promise of living as Vikram’s widow… their love story is as beautifully filmy as it gets!
Sweet Beginnings
Dimple-Vikram’s iconic story started off when they met in 1995 in the MA English course at Punjab University (Chandigarh). However, things took an eventful turn for the college-going couple after Batra’s selection for the Indian Military Academy.
Talking about them, Kiara had commented to Indian Express – “There was a time when he might have not joined the army, he was making that decision just before he joined the Indian Army. He thought oh may be I will be in Merchant Navy because (he thought), ‘Now I am in love,’ but she (Dimple) asked him, ‘What do you wanna do? Go follow your dreams. Just focus on what you want to do.’”
Filled Her Maang With Blood
Nevertheless, the duo made their long-distance relationship work… clinging to the sweet moments spent writing letters, making trunk calls and meeting between Vikram’s postings. Eventually, when Dimple’s family started pressurising her for marriage, Vikram told her – “Take care to get what you like, or you will be forced to like what you get.”
When Dimple had expressed her insecurity, Vikram had assured her in one truly filmi gesture –
“On one of his visits, I raised the issue of marriage as I was feeling a bit insecure. Without saying anything, he took a blade out of his wallet, cut his thumb and filled my maang with his blood. That is the most cherished moment of my life to date. Then, later on, I used to tease him that he is pura filmy,” Dimple had said, recalling the event to Quint.
Kiara Advani has expressed her awe at Dimple’s decision to never get married after Vikram’s death.
Kiara said, “It wasn’t as easy as it is today to have a long-distance relationship. In those four years, even though it was only a couple of times that they might have even physically met, you are so much in love with each other that you decide this is for eternity and that’s a choice you make. Today to see someone actually decide and choose I don’t want to marry anyone else ever in my life, imagine what it speaks for the love they had.”
Don’t you have goosebumps listening to this brave tale of love, sacrifice and pride for the country? We can’t wait to see the magic unfold on the screen. Fans have already warmly showered Kiara-Sid with love after the release of Shershaah’s soulful songs ‘Raataan Lambiyan’ and ‘Ranjha’.
