Badhaai Ho actress Neena Gupta recently launched her autobiography ‘Sach Kahun Toh’.
From her personal struggles to professional comeback, the book is filled with interesting, startling and emotional anecdotes.
Neena had daughter Masaba Gupta (fashion designer) out of wedlock with former West Indian cricketer Vivian Richards, and had raised her single-handedly!
In her book, Neena has been quite candid about her past failed relationships and marriage. She revealed that her marriage with 1st husband Amlan Kusum Ghose (a young man from IIT), lasted less than a year! She labelled her reason for marrying him as ‘childish’.
As per Zoom report, she said – “Amlan and I would meet in secret on campus, his hostel or near my house. His parents lived in another city but his grandfather lived in my lane so he would spend festivals and holidays in WEA.”
Their relationship was soon discovered after her friend told her parents. Neena wanted to travel to Srinagar with Amlan, and hence agreed to get married to him.
“My mother was so strict that it was such a big thing to go out with boys for a trip. That was a very childish thing to do but I was childish,” Neena commented.
But things soon fell apart, since Amlan thought Neena would ‘settle down’ but she didn’t picture herself as a ‘regular housewife’. The couple got divorced within a year.
“Amlan viewed things differently. Given the times and our upbringing, I think he had always assumed that I would eventually settle down and focus on our family. But I had become a bit too ambitious and didn’t see myself ever being a regular housewife. I wanted more from life, and the more theatre I did, the clearer my path became. During the short time, Amlan and I were married, we never quarrelled much. Not about our daily lives, the way our house was run or about my studies and career. We were both very, very young when we dove into marriage, but to this day, I don’t have a harsh thing to say about him,” Neena elaborated.
Neena is now married to chartered accountant Vivek Mehra – 13 years and going strong! On the work front, the Sardar Ka Grandson actress has a film titled ‘Dial 100′ and the ‘2nd season of Masaba Masaba’ lined up ahead of her.
