Happy Birthday to the superstar Mithun Chakraborty! The OG ‘Disco Dancer’ turned 71 today.
Looks like the birthday turned out not so happy for him as a complaint has been filed against the actor-politician in Kolkata.
According to the media reports, an FIR was registered against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mithun Chakraborty in Manikatala police station in Kolkata over his controversial speech during the election campaign in West Bengal. The report also states that he was virtually questioned by Kolkata Police on Wednesday over a complaint accusing him of inciting post-poll violence in West Bengal through his speeches.
The complaint alleged that the actor had used his famous Bengali movie dialogues like “Marbo ekhane lash porbe shoshane (Will hit you here and the body will land in the crematorium)“ and “Ek chobole chobi (one snake bite and you will turn into a photograph)“ at a rally in Kolkata after he joined the BJP on March 7. Reportedly, the complainant claimed that these dialogues caused post-poll violence in the state.
As HT reported, last week the 71-year-old had moved to court seeking to withdraw the case filed against him. During the hearing on Friday Chakraborty supposedly told the court that he had just uttered popular dialogues from his Bengali films. The actor went on to claim that the utterances of such film dialogues were only recreational and that he is innocent and in no way connected with any offence as alleged by the complainant.
However, the court apparently directed Mithun to cooperate with the investigation through video conference. The court has fixed the case for hearing on June 18, giving time to the police to question Chakraborty.
After the declaration of assembly poll results on May 2, clashes were reported between Trinamool Congress (TMC) & BJP workers from several places in the state. Last month, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had said that at least 16 people have lost their lives in post-poll violence in the state.
