1. Lagaan vs Gadar: Ek Prem Katha- 2001
Released on the same day (June 15, 2001), both ‘Lagaan’ & ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ turned out to be massive hits at the box office. Set in 1893 when India was under the rule of Britishers, Aamir Khan played the lead role- Bhuvan Latha in the period flick. On the other hand, Sunny Deol was seen as a Sikh truck driver, Tara Singh who falls in love with a Pakistani Muslim girl in this period love story with high action and drama. The movie was set during the partition of India.
Reportedly, ‘Lagaan’ grossed Rs 180 crores approx, whereas ‘Gadar’ movie’s estimated B.O collection is Rs 130 crores.
2. Raja Hindustani vs Ghatak- 1996
Yes, 15th November 1996 once again saw the titans clash at the box office. While Aamir Khan’s blockbuster romantic film ‘Raja Hindustani’ portrayed him as a small-town cab driver Raja, Sunny Deol was seen as a wrestler in the action thriller ‘Ghatak’. The Aamir Khan starrer emerged as a blockbuster with a box office collection of Rs 76.34 crores approx, while Sunny’s movie reportedly collected Rs 44 crores.
3. Dil vs Ghayal- 1990
On June 22, 1990, Aamir Khan & Sunny Deol clashed for the first time. This day Aamir Khan starrer romantic drama ‘Dil’, where he was seen as college guy Ajay Prasad who is interested in spending his father’s money on wild parties, hit the screens, and on the same date, Sunny Deol arrived with his hit action flick ‘Ghayal’, wherein he played an amateur boxer, Ajay Mehra. Both the movies did well in the box office with the estimated collections of Rs 20 crores & Rs 17 crores respectively.
