1. Munmun Duta’s Casteist Slur
A couple of days back, #MunmunDutta was trending on Twitter as she used a casteist slur in one of her YouTube videos. In the makeup video, the Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasma actress aka Babita Ji was seen saying that she wants to look good and not like a ‘bhangi’.
After that, she was booked under section 3(1) (u) of the SC/ST Act POA, and an FIR was also filed against the actress by Dalit rights activist Rajat Kalsan. She later apologized citing that her words were misinterpreted.
2. Yuvika Choudhury Uses Casteist Slur
Just like Munmun Dutta, Yuvika Choudhury too recently used the casteist slur ‘bhangi’ in one of her vlogs. The Bigg Boss 9 contestant was massively trolled and criticized by the fuming netizens. However, soon after this, the actress issued an apology.
3. Aditya Narayan’s ‘Alibaug’ Remark
Recently, the Indian Idol 12 host-singer Aditya Narayan landed himself into controversy as he supposedly commented on Alibaug, which didn’t go well with the people and was perceived as an insult towards the people from Alibaug.
He was apparently seen asking one contestant, Sawai Bhatt, if he thinks he has come from Alibaug. Aditya, then, issued a written & video apology after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena‘s (MNS) Chitrapat Sena chief, Ameya Khopkar, accused the makers of Indian Idol 12 of showing Alibaug in poor light and asked for an apology.
4. When Amit Kumar Criticized Indian Idol 12
Recently, the Kishore Kumar special episodes on Indian Idol 12 grabbed a lot of attention as the last weekend episodes were supposed to be a tribute to the legendary singer Kishore Ji but turned out to be flaky one. The viewers slammed the contestants and judges Neha Kakkar & Himesh Reshammiya for spoiling Kishore Kumar’s songs.
Amit Kumar, Kishore Kumar’s son, graced the episode as a special guest also criticized the makers by calling it a “boring” episode and didn’t enjoy it at all.
5. Anu Malik’s Return to Indian Idol 12 As A Judge
Back in 2019, singer-music composer Anu Malik, who has been accused of sexual harassment by several women, including singers Sona Mohapatra, Neha Bhasin, and more, was asked to step down from the singing reality show Indian Idol 11 by the channel.
Now, the channel is receiving flak as they are bringing back Anu Malik as a judge on the show. He is apparently replacing another singer-composer Vishal Dadlani who supposedly couldn’t be part of the show for unknown reasons. Netizens and singer Sona Mohapatra have tweeted against the Indian Idol makers for their decision.
