New parents Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli recently helped a couple in raising funds for their child – Ayaansh Gupta.
Ayaansh suffers from a rare genetic disorder called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SPA) and the medicine required for treatment is extremely expensive.
The medicine Zolgensma costs Rs 16 crores and the parents had created a Twitter handle called AyaanshFightsSMA in order to raise funds for their child. On the 23rd of May, the family successfully raised Rs 16 crores and procured the medicine. They thanked various celebrities, especially Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli.
“Never thought that this arduous journey we set on to #saveayaanshgupta would culminate this beautifully. Happy to announce tht we have reachd ₹16 Cr. needed to get #Zolgensma for #Ayaansh. A big thank you to every person who supported us. This is your victory,” the tweet read.

But what you have done for Ayaansh and this campaign is beyond what we expected. Thanks for your generosity. You helped us win this match of life with a six! Will always be indebted for your help to #saveayaanshgupta,” they tweeted.
The couple also thanked Kartik Aaryan, Rajkummar Rao, Dia Mirza, Arjun Kapoor, Emraan Hashmi and Sara Ali Khan, for their contribution.
Anushka and Virat had earlier initiated a COVID relief fund for which they themselves donated Rs 2 crores. They raised a whopping Rs 11 crores through the fundraiser and revealed that the money raised will be donated. The donations will be made to Act Grants, which will work towards providing oxygen, medical manpower, vaccination awareness, and telemedicine facilities through the pandemic.
