Be it BTS, EXO, Blackpink or Twice… the Kpop craze in India grows day by day.
Today we have a fun throwback of the time when Karan Johar met Kai (Kim Jong-in) from the hugely popular boy band EXO… and he had a LOL-worthy moment.
KJo had posted a selfie with Kai after he ran into the South Korean singer at a fashion show in Paris, in September 2018. Naturally, Indian and Paris fans went nuts at the photo.
But did you know the funny behind-the-scenes moment…. where Karan mistakenly thought that EXO fans’ screaming and fangirling was for HIM? Hahaha, that’s right. In conversation with ‘Social Media Star with Janice’ host, he had opened up on the whole incident.
He recalled – “I was inundated with (messages) like ‘Kai, this K-pop star from EXO, is attending the show, you gotta take a selfie, you gotta take a selfie, you gotta take a selfie’ and I was like, I kid you not, there were at least 3,000 mentions and I was inundated, like I was with Reshma, as in Reshma Shetty (celebrity manager), I was like ‘Reshma, who is this person?’ K-pop I had heard of upar upar se, I had no idea about the teenage craziness.”
Karan then went out in search for the handsome Kpop star and saw the masses shrieking. He assumed it was Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham fans who were delighted to see him, but his celebrity manager told him the hype was for Kai.
“We were looking at everybody and I just couldn’t (find him). Then I said, ‘you know I am going to walk outside and he’s not there, let’s leave.’ We’ve gone outside and there were like screaming people. I was like, ‘You know Reshma, there are a lot of people who have seen Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham in Paris and that’s why this crowd is screaming.’ She says, ‘Karan this is not for you’.”
“I’m presuming ye mere liye hai cause I’ve come outside. Of course, not a single person was there for me, they were all there for Kai and he was going crazy,” Karan concluded. And then the iconic selfie happened!
