The talented Nawazuddin Siddiqui turns 47 today! Happy Birthday!
From doing odd jobs like working as a chemist and security guard, to making it big in Bollywood…. his journey of struggle has indeed been fascinating.
With films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Manto, Serious Men, Raman Raghav 2.0 in his repertoire; Nawazuddin’s acting range truly is versatile. On the special occasion of his birthday, we have a fun fact throwback of the Sacred Games actor that will make you go WHOA!
Now, Nawazuddin gave one of his most challenging performances as the psychopath serial killer Ramanna in Raman Raghav 2.0. To give the role justice, he used method acting and turns out his struggle for the REEL got way too REAL.
(Method acting is a technique wherein the actors completely immerse themselves into the headspace of the characters, their circumstances and try to imitate them as closely as possible)
Talking to Deccan Chronicle about the role, Nawaz had said – “Every time I spoke his (Raman) lines or carried out his horrible acts of violence for the camera, I felt almost corrupted and compromised. It was as if something died inside me.“
To get into the nitty-gritty of the criminal’s character (which was inspired by the serial killer Raman Raghav), the actor used to frequent lots of dhabas, slum areas, and other shady places. Siddiqui even left his home for two days without informing anyone and lived in a cheap, secluded motel to prepare for the role.
He got so involved in really living the character that he ended up getting HOSPITALIZED due to unhygienic filming conditions. Even in the hospital, he didn’t get out of the serial killer’s headspace – as his wife found him mumbling dialogues from the film in a semi-conscious daze.
As per HT report, Anurag Kashyap had commented on Nawaz’s dedication to the role – “He got dengue and he was in the hospital. While in the hospital, he was only, constantly blabbering lines from Raman Raghav as if he was literally living the character. He was on high fever and his wife called me, ‘What have you done to him? He’s just talking non-stop, lines from the movie’ and I got scared, he was really affected by it. He becomes like that. He likes to live there, he likes to stay there, he actually prefers that world, he escapes into that world.”
Kudos to the actor for really committing to the role! Isn’t that something? In other news, Nawazuddin who was last seen in Serious Men will next be featuring in Jogira Sara Ra Ra and Bole Chudiyan.
