Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next – the crime drama film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is based on Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai.
Starring Alia Bhatt in the titular role, the movie is slated to release in theatres on July 30. However, it seems it has again got involved in a controversy.
Gangubai Kathiawadi’s adopted son, the 74-year-old Babuji Rawji Shah, had filed a criminal defamation case against Bhansali, Alia and author Hussain Zaidi.
He had alleged that the chapter on Gangubai Kathiawadi in the ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ was defamatory, tarnished her reputation and infringed upon his deceased mother’s right to privacy and self-respect.
He had also demanded a permanent injunction to stop writers, filmmakers from producing, directing or airing promo of any film based on ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ novel.
When Are They Summoned?
Mumbai City Civil Court had earlier dismissed Babuji Shah’s suit but now Mumbai’s Mazgaon Court has summoned Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Alia Bhatt and the writer of the film on May 21.
