Pranitha Subhash is set to make her big Bollywood debut with Hungama 2 which is to see a mid 2021 release.
In an exclusive with Instant Bollywood, Pranitha spilt the beans on her exciting journey and talks about her latest project – Bhuj, with Ajay Devgn.
Talking about her journey into the industry Pranitha explains how she had a rocky time convincing her parents that acting was her way to go. “I was around 16 and I got offered my first film. It was quite a task to convince my parents to let me do this. I had lost out on this film because my parents didn’t let me do it. Eventually, during the summer holidays, I got offered to play a role in the Kannada version of Salman Khan’s ‘Wanted’. I somehow convinced my parents that I’ll do one film in the summer holiday,” she says.
Pranitha recently acquired a degree in Professional & Leadership Development from Harvard. “I run an NGO after my own name, Pranitha Foundation, so when you’re doing so much work and are associated with other NGOs, I felt I required proper validation. I didn’t want to be ‘just an actress doing social work’, I wanted to have something more solid from an institution or University so that I could collaborate better and do impactful work.”
Subhash then gave us a snippet of her debut journey! She says, “When it came to Hungama 2, the title itself comes with a lot of weightage because of the prequel, Hungama 1. So except for the director, the production and Paresh Rawal ji, the rest of us are all new to the franchise so me, Shilpa, we were all very new. I think the flavour of the film remains the same so that was just carried forward.”
“I cannot really say what my dream Bollywood debut could be. I am very grateful to the team for having me as a part of this film because the journey has been beautiful so far. Having said that, you can never predict which film is going to take you where or what works for you,” Pranitha continued.
“I a 100% feel comedy is the toughest genre to act in because I think artists can please the audience with their roles but making them laugh is tough. There is a meter that you have to follow while acting in a comedy film because you have to be straight up in a scene but then you have to drop the comedy at a point. The thing is, we are all new to this entire genre so if you ask a stand up comedian this, they might have a better answer because they might plan their jokes accordingly but here we have to first build up a story and then the premise which makes you laugh. The comedy part is somewhat expected to be taken care of by the director so we basically just come with a blank mind and act,” Pranitha says when we asked her if comedy was indeed a tough genre to crack.
We also asked Pranitha what kind of roles the talented actress would like to play in the future. She says, “Films like Baahubali are in trend right now so I really want to do a film where there is a lot of grandeur, like a historical mythological film or like a Sanjay Leela Bhansali fictional film.”
Talking about Bhuj, Pranitha says, “Bhuj is a war film and it is very much unlike whatever I have done so far which has been more commercial like the hero comes out first then the heroine steps in and then there are fight scenes. Bhuj on the other hand has a story to tell about the war that had happened. Now patriotic films are also taking pace in the industry and the audience too is interested in it plus it is important to tell all these stories.”
