Storyline
Kaagaz is a biographical comedy which is a satire on the lifelong struggles of the common man. In the movie, Pankaj Tripathi plays the real-life character of Lal Bihari Mritak with the name Bharat Lal Mritak. Bharat is a band player from the northern state of Uttar Pradesh and is loved by all. The man is satisfied with his slow-paced life in a small home with his wife and children.
Bharat’s wife (Monal Gajjar), on the other hand, has bigger aspirations and tries talking her husband into getting a bank loan in order to expand their business. However, the twist in the so-far sweet story is that Bharat’s aunt had claimed him dead so she’d get his share of the family property. An issue Bharat realised only when he had to get the loan.
A Rough Start To 2021?
There are multiple reasons for as to why Kaagaz wasn’t up to the mark. Pankaj’s Tripathi’s talents were wasted in the making of this film. The setting of the film along with the way it was made isn’t of interest to all the audiences. Perhaps the spice element which attracts people into watching biographical films was missing. What went wrong? The need for an item song right as we get into the film was unnecessary, the direction simply did not make the film worthwhile and Satish Kaushik’s alternative commentary was completely not needed.
Saviour
Pankaj Tripathi’s acting was the highlight of the film and was the absolute saviour of what could’ve become a disaster. From every expression to ever dialogue communicated, the actor was as usual at the top of his game. The emotions portrayed in all scenes were Pankaj’s best moments.
Hit or Miss?
Kaagaz is a MISS but we think a one time watch wouldn’t hurt. That is of course if your eyes are only on Pankaj Tripathi.
